Cholar Dal
Bengal Gram cooked with coconut and aniseed.
Ingredients:
Bengal Gram (Chana Dal) - 250g
Cooking Oil - 2 tbsp
Aniseed - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Cinnamon Stick (1/2")- 1
Sugar - 2 tsp
Coconut (thin small pieces) - 4 tsp
Salt to taste.
Procedure:
First boil the bengal gram with turmeric powder and water( 1 1/2 cup) till it is fully done. Take a Kadai (wok) and heat oil in it. Once it is hot sauté the aniseeds and cinnamon together for a minute or so. Then add the coconut and sauté further for 5 to 6 minutes. Add boiled bengal gram and then cook for 10 minutes more. Mix in the salt and sugar. Serve hot along with basmati rice.
